Abstract

Managing fixed assets in large global ERP systems is a crucial part of financial operations, yet the retirement of assets often remains a highly manual and time-consuming process. In Oracle E-Business Suite (R12), the standard out-of-the-box functionality for mass asset retirement becomes inefficient when assets do not share uniform selection criteria, forcing organizations to rely on extensive manual intervention. This paper presents a practical functional architecture developed for Oracle E-Business Suite (R12) that addresses this challenge through a custom API-driven “stamping” framework. The approach consolidates heterogeneous asset records into a single processing batch by repurposing unused application fields and integrating Oracle’s public APIs. The implementation significantly streamlined the retirement process for nearly 15,000 global assets, reducing the manual processing effort from approximately 95 hours to just 5 hours per quarter, resulting in a 95% improvement in operational efficiency while maintaining complete data integrity. Beyond its immediate operational impact, the study demonstrates how targeted API-based customization can enable scalable “last-mile” automation within legacy ERP environments, contributing to broader discussions in Financial Technology (FinTech) and enterprise process optimization.
